Debbie Williams-Hoak has been in love with sports her whole life. Growing up in Euclid, Ohio she was a three sport High School All-American in tennis, basketball and track. She competed in National Championships in five different sports (bowling, golf, softball, tennis and track) and also was invited to try out for the Pan American Junior Team in basketball. Earning a scholarship for basketball and track, Debbie attended the University of Michigan. She focused on track and became a four time Big 10 Javelin champion and All-American. She qualified for three U.S Olympic Track & Field Finals as a javelin thrower and just missed making the 1984 Olympic Team. Debbie also competed in seven U.S. Olympic Festivals (6 track, 1 softball) and represented the United States in Track & Field competing in Russia and West Germany. She later became an assistant track coach and strength and conditioning coach for the University of Michigan and also was selected as a throwing coach for the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Debbie is a member of the University of Michigan Track & Field Hall of Fame along with the Ohio High School Track & Field Hall of Fame.
Debbie took up the game of golf at age 31 in 1991. Subsequently, she won a Michigan Public Links Championship, the Women’s Interstate Mid-Am, two Michigan Amateur Championships, The Michigan Open and was named the Golf Association Of Michigan (GAM) 1993 Female Player of the Year. She also competed in seven USGA National Championships before turning pro in 1995. She played on the Futures Golf Tour and then qualified for the LPGA Tour in 2000.
Debbie is currently an LPGA Class A Teaching Professional and Director of the Brookside Golf Academy in Saline, Michigan. She is the Lead Instructor for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program of Detroit with the Michigan Women's Golf Association and an advisor to the (MWGA). She is also the Site Director and Lead Instructor for the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Program of Greater Washtenaw County. Debbie is also a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Fitness Instructor along with being the Saline High School Boys and Girls Golf Coach. She was recently selected to serve on the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association Board of Directors (MIGCA).
Debbie loves helping others especially with the game of golf. She lives in Saline, Michigan with her husband Paul and father Jim and has two step children, Emily and Paul III.
